U2 en SUDAMERICA
Popmart Tour: 4a manga (1998)
La cuarta manga del PopMart Tour llevó a U2 a tocar por primera vez en Sudamérica para finalmente terminar en Oceanía, Japón y Sudáfrica. Si la primera manga norteamericana se había caracterizado por un notable descenso en la venta de entradas, malas críticas y la sombra de un disco de escaso éxito para lo habitual en U2, la europea supuso una pequeña toma de aire para el grupo, buen recibimiento del público, la posibilidad de tocar en nuevos mercados y finalmente ayudó a mejorar el espectáculo hasta conseguir una plena adaptación por parte del grupo. Un logro que se vio nuevamente mermado al regresar a Norteamérica debido a la vuelta a los estadios medio vacíos y la pérdida del ambiente conseguido en Europa (excepto en México).
U2 arrasó en su primera visita a Sudamérica
La llegada de U2 a Sudamérica les garantizaba un colosal recibimiento, no sólo por la cantidad de fans que tenían allí, sino por ser norma en casi cada gira internacional realizada por algún artista importante desde aquella primera visita de Queen en 1981. Iban a tocar en Brasil, Argentina y Chile y las entradas para los siete conciertos programados se agotaron con rapidez. Era una nueva oportunidad para U2 de recuperar la alegría en el PopMart y las condiciones previas parecían del todo favorables para la consecución de dicho objetivo.
Empezaron en Río de Janeiro (Brasil) el 27 de enero de 1998. El plan inicial era tocar en el que llegó a ser el mayo estadio del mundo, el famoso Maracana, pero el equipo técnico de U2 se encontró con la sorpresa del inesperado cambio de recinto. Según los promotores, el motivo fue una grúa encargada del montaje demasiado grande para entrar en Maracana. El concierto se trasladó a un circuito cercano, el Nelson Piquet Autodromo. Los más de 66,000 fans tuvieron muchos problemas para acceder al circuito debido a un colapso de tráfico y la banda acabó desplazándose en helicóptero. El recibimiento fue espectacular, sentando un precedente para el resto de la gira sudamericana. Para la primera tanda de bises aparecieron con las camisetas de la selección nacional brasileña de fútbol, con el 10 y sus propios nombres en la espalda.
Siguieron los días 30 y 31 de enero en el que llegó a ser el segundo mayor estadio del mundo después de Maracana, el Morumbi de Sao Paulo. Oficialmente se agotaron más de 155,000 entradas pero algunos recuentos hablaron de 95,000 personas en la segunda noche. Bad fue una de las sorpresas y se añadió en la mayoría de los conciertos sudamericanos. Esas tres primeras actuaciones en Sudamérica devolvieron la diversión a un espectáculo que esta vez contaba solamente con buenas críticas, estadios llenos, público entregado y la sensación de que el elevadísimo coste de llevar un espectáculo así (sin publicidad comercial) a países tan remotos valía la pena. En el año 2000, durante la visita promocional de All That You Can't Leave Behind, Bono declaró tener buenos recuerdos de esos conciertos en Sao Paulo ya que por entonces la banda no estaba segura de su futuro y justo recordaron lo que significaba formar parte de U2.
U2 visitó a las Madres durante su visita a Buenos Aires
En Argentina tocaron tres noches en el estadio del River Plate, en Buenos Aires, con otra mágica cifra de asistencia: 160,478 entradas vendidas. El día anterior al inicio de los conciertos, el 4 de febrero, visitaron a las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo, aquellas que perdieron a sus maridos e hijos durante la dictadura militar. Bono les dedicó One y durante la interpretación aparecieron algunas de las madres, algo que provocó los aplausos del público y de los propios miembros de U2. Durante esa misma noche y el resto los conciertos Bono hizo algunas referencias a las madres y cada actuación se finalizó con emotivas versiones de Mothers Of The Dissapeared, la última canción de The Joshua Tree, ausente de los setlist desde diciembre de 1987. Para ilustrar la interpretación se pasaron por la pantalla las imágenes de un encuentro de las Madres de la Plaza de Mayo. Al igual que en Brasil, U2 bajó del limón con la camiseta de la selección nacional, esta vez la albiceleste argentina.
La última actuación tuvo lugar en Santiago de Chile, en el Estadio Nacional, escenario de los fusilamientos de Pinochet durante su dictadura. En esos momentos se estaba cuestionando su decisión de autoproclamarse Senador Vitalicio y el país vivía bajo una división de posturas. El concierto, retransmitido por televisión, obtuvo la habitual respuesta de las actuaciones previas y Bono y la banda lo agradecieron con una de las mejores ediciones de PopMart de toda la gira. Ese mismo día, Chile venció a domicilio a Inglaterra y los dos goles se mostraron por la pantalla, llevando la histeria a un público que coreó todas las canciones posibles. En esta ocasión las que subieron al escenario durante una impactante Mothers Of The Dissapeared fueron precisamente las Madres de los Desaparecidos durante el régimen de Pinochet. A mitad de canción, algunas de ellas pronunciaron el nombre de su hijo, la fecha de su desaparición y su anhelo de justicia. La aparición de ambos grupos de madres de hijos desaparecidos en Buenos Aires y Santiago apareció en los noticiarios de medio mundo y no faltó quién les acusó de buscar publicidad.

War, Under a Blood Red Sky y The Unforgettable Fire (1983-1985)
Bono en 1983.Lilliwhite continuó en la producción de discos de la banda con el álbum War, realizado en la primavera de 1983.
Este álbum tenía más mensaje político que los álbumes anteriores y en él se incluyeron dos de las canciones más famosas del cuarteto; "Sunday Bloody Sunday" y "New Year's Day", la beligerante declaración de paz de U2, cumple 25 años sin perder actualidad. Con estos temas alcanzaron la cima en varios Rankings y War despertó la curiosidad de quienes buscaban un sonido nuevo y letras que realmente despertaran los sentimientos de los jóvenes Irlandeses.
Durante la War Tour lanzaron el disco y el video titulado Under a Blood Red Sky, grabado en Red Rocks Colorado, con lo que U2 ya empezaba a revolucionar la manera de presentar un concierto en vivo. El álbum entró en las listas en el número 2 y se convirtió en el directo de mayor éxito de las Islas británicas.

Este vídeo corresponde al concierto que dio U2 el 30-5-1983 en el Glen Helen Regional Park (Devore, California, USA) dentro de su gira U2 WAR TOUR. Este concierto se englobo dentro del ‘US Festival’, donde actuaron, entre otros, The Pretenders o David Bowie.
Durante este perídodo en el que U2 ya empezaba a ganarse al público británico, estos recibieron una importantes invitación de Juan Pablo II. Era conocido que U2 cargaba algunas de sus canciones con mensajes religiosos, pero ¿El Papa recibiendo irlandeses? Realmente era contradictorio. Después de un largo debate, decidieron dar el Ok, pero pidieron que no haya camarógrafos ni paparazzi, querían una charla íntima con el Papa. ¿Cuál fue la respuesta que consiguió Bono? Que sin cámaras ni filmadoras no había gracia, que era lo mismo que no fueran. "Hagan lo que quieran, pero sin nosotros", respondió Bono.
Ocurrió el 23 de Septiembre de 1999. El Papa concedió una audiencia a Bono junto a otros representantes de Jubilee 2000 (Bob Geldof, el productor Quincy Jones o el economista de Harvard Jeffrey Sachs), en su residencia de verano cerca de Roma. Jubilee 2000, fue un movimiento, que coincidiendo con el cambio del milenio, ‘lucho’ por la cancelación de la deuda al tercer mundo.
Bono regalo al Papa un libro de poesía del poeta irlandés Seamus Heaney y….¡un par de gafas de sol de The Fly!….que el Papa, con el gran sentido del humor que le caracterizaba…¡se puso ante el asombro de todos!. El Papa, le regalo a Bono un rosario.
Bono recuerda al Papa Juan Pablo II como “un combatiente callejero y un astuto defensor de los pobres del mundo. Sin él jamas habríamos cancelado completamente la deuda de los 23 países”
“En Irlanda, un montón de gente estaba muy disgustado por su fracaso en abrazar la anticoncepción como una necesidad, no sólo para la vida moderna, sino para la vida de los pobres en África y otros lugares donde él trabaja de manera muy dura para ayudar”, dijo Bono. “Sabía que sus convicciones eran muy reales, y he aprendido a respetar las posiciones conservadoras que yo no comparto”.
Pero realmente Bono descubrió otras facetas del Papa:
“Él tenía unos ojos traviesos, a la vez que piadosos. Si la Iglesia Católica es el glam rock de la religión, este chico era el más vivo de los artistas”.
Y aquí viene la anécdota de Bono con el Papa Juan Pablo II y las gafas de The Fly:

Mientras estaban sentados juntos, Bono había notado que el Papa le estaba mirando a él. Preocupado porque sus gafas de sol estilo de The Fly fueran algo ofensivo, Bono se las quito. Cuando Bono se acercó para recibir el rosario, el Papa continuó mirando las gafas de sol.
“Así que le pregunté si las quería. Él no sólo asintió, sino que se las puso y sonrió de manera picara. Fue un gran momento por un montón de razones, y una de ellas fue, creo, ‘Vamos a estar en la primera página de todos los periódicos’ No me refiero a mí, sino a nuestros problemas. Sabía lo que una imagen del papa con gafas de sol iba a hacer”.
Desgraciadamente, los periódicos no llegaron a publicar la imagen del Papa con las gafas de Bono.
“Los cortesanos del Vaticano no tienen el mismo sentido del humor que el pontífice. Podían imaginar las camisetas. Jamás veremos esas fotos”.
Afortunadamente, si vimos esas fotos a través del libro “Do zobaczenia w raju”, publicado por Arturo Mari, fotógrafo del Papa juan Pablo II.

Después de War, U2 volvió a los estudios con Brian Eno y Daniel Lanois como productores, quienes le dieron un toque experimental. Lanzado en otoño de 1984, The Unforgettable Fire volvió a conseguir el éxito obtenido con War. Fue uno de los discos más revolucionarios de la banda, adoptando un estilo absolutamente distinto al de sus inicios, cargando a sus canciones de fracciones melódicas, y explotando mas que nunca la creatividad de su guitarra. Inclusive, fue uno de los períodos más creativos de Addam, el bajista. Entró en el número 1 de las listas británicas y en el 12 de las americanas. El álbum supuso ingresar en el top 40 de las listas americanas con la canción de homenaje a Martin Luther King "Pride (In the Name of Love)".
U2 salió de gira para promocionar el disco, titulado Unforgettable Fire Tour; dentro de los conciertos de ese tour destacó una actuación memorable en el Live Aid, donde ya tenían el mundo a su alcance. Después de la gira, lanzaron el mini-LP en directo Wide Awake in America en 1985.

OCTUBER
Uno de los discos mas conflictivos de U2, se tuvo que realizar muy apresuradamente debido a que Bono perdio las letras antes de entrar al estudio a grabar. Un disco muy euforico, cargado de una lirica muy densa, tiene sonidos que los U2 jamas volvieron a utilizar.
Este segundo album de estudio del grupo dublinés se grabó en 1981 entre Francia e Irlanda. Se le ha calificado como "el peor disco de U2", pero lo cierto es que contiene canciones muy interesantes. Además, estuvo envuelto en la polémica porque días antes de la grabación, un maletín con las partituras y las letras de las canciones fue robado. Años después, fue devuelto, pero siempre se dijo que esa era la causa del bajo nivel del disco. Abre el tema "Gloria", uno de los más repetidos en los conciertos de los años 80, e inspirado en la religiosa Irlanda. "October", la canción que da título al disco, es una balada acompañada por piano en la que Bono luce las cualidades de su voz.

Formación, Boy y October (1976–1982)
El joven Larry Mullen Jr. puso un anuncio en un tablón de su colegio, el Mount Temple Comprehensive School, buscando gente para formar un grupo. En principio hizo que pasaran los guitarristas. Dave Evans ("The Edge") fue el primer y el último en ingresar, ya que Larry quedó convencido de que no conseguiría algo mejor. Luego fue el turno de los bajistas, dónde Adam Clayton se ganó el puesto no sólo por un contundente talento, sino también por su experiencia en otras bandas anteriores. Por último, Larry quería una segunda guitarra y voz, y ahí llegó el turno de Paul Hewson Bono. Paul comenzó tocando la guitarra, y lo hizo mal. Entonces, Larry pidió que cantara, y lo hizo peor. Entonces, ¿por qué entró en la banda? Larry siempre acusó a su olfato de lo que en ese momento parecía una locura: "Un cantante debe tener personalidad, y el la tenía", dijo Larry años más tarde. The Edge convenció a Larry de dejar entrar en la banda a su hermano, Dick Evans.
Bien, la banda ya estaba formada, pero ¿qué tocar y cómo? Sólo tenían la batería, la guitarra eléctrica de Edge y la guitarra acústica de su hermano, ambas sin amplificadores, y el bajo de Adam, con un amplificador bastante viejo. Comenzaron tocando temas de los Beatles, de los Rolling Stones, etc. Paul se cambió el nombre a Bono Vox, en honor a una marca de audífonos de Dublin, que en latín quiere decir "Buena Voz". Dave adoptó también un nombre artístico, llamándose The Edge, y Larry agregó el "JR" a su nombre, ya que poseía el mismo nombre de su padre.
Se llamaron Feedback antes de cambiarse a The Hype en 1977, pero la llegada de U2 fue un poco bizarra, ya que Dick dejó el grupo en medio de un concierto por razones difíciles de definir, y ahí nació U2. Dick terminó tocando con los Virgin Prunes. El grupo se bautizó U2, pero, ¿Por qué?; suele decirse que en honor al avión espía Lockheed U-2, que fue derribado por los rusos en los días del nacimiento de Bono; en realidad, según reconocen los propios miembros del grupo en su autobiografía "U2 by U2", la elección del nombre fue más o menos provisional hasta encontrar otro más adecuado, pero su creciente fama y proyección internacional asentó el nombre. Steve Averill (diseñador de las carátulas de los álbumes y sencillos del grupo) fue quien sugirió el nombre. U2 también es un juego de palabras, ya que se pronuncia al igual que you too, (inglés: "tú también").
Material promocional de Boy.U2 dio su primer gran golpe en 1978, cuando ganaron un concurso patrocinado por Paul McGuinness en su último año de instituto. Para finales de año, el manager de The Stranglers, Paul McGuinness, les vio actuar y les ofreció un contrato. Incluso con eso la banda tuvo problemas para seguir adelante, porque la CBS no les contrató finalmente. En otoño de 1979, U2 lanzó su sencillo de debut, "U2 Three", sólo para Irlanda donde encabezó las listas. Después empezaron a actuar en Inglaterra, pero no lograron gran éxito.
U2 tenía otro sencillo, "Another Day" y en 1980 Island Records les hizo un contrato. A finales de año sacaron su álbum de debut, Boy, producido por Steve Lillywhite. "Boy" triunfó por su dinámica proveniente del Post Punk, combinándola con un sonido de absoluta vanguardia, especialmente en su peculiar sonido de guitarra. Sin duda, eran prometedores, y sus letras cargaban firmes mensajes políticos, por las permanentes situaciones adversas en Irlanda. La canción más importante de este disco fue "I Will Follow", aún hoy tocada en vivo en sus recitales, pero también fueron importantes canciones como "Another Time, Another Place" y "Stories For Boys". Gracias a los continuos recitales, entre los que se incluían abrir las actuaciones de Talking Heads y una pequeña gira denominada Boy Tour, U2 pudo llevar a Boy al 70 de las listas americanas a principios de 1981. Con la producción de Lillywhite lanzaron October, álbum. Fue muy poco exitoso y la banda lo sufrió mucho, ya que los sorprendió una mala respuesta popular justo cuando alcanzaban la escena musical importante. Pero manteniendo una dinámica de disco tras disco, se tenían algo entre manos...

U2 (IPA: /ju.tu/) es una banda de rock de Dublín, Irlanda. Formada en 1976, U2 es una de las bandas más populares del mundo desde mediados de la década de 1980. Ha vendido más de 170 millones de discos alrededor del mundo, tiene seis álbumes que han llegado al número 1 en la lista de éxitos en los Estados Unidos y otros nueve en el Reino Unido. U2 es uno de los grupos con mayor éxito de todos los tiempos. Han sido galardonados con 22 premios Grammy, la cifra más alta para un artista de rock.
La banda fue formada cuando Bono (vocalista y guitarrista), The Edge (guitarrista, teclado y vocalista) y Adam Clayton (bajo) respondieron a un anuncio puesto por Larry Mullen Jr. (batería y percusión) aun eran estudiantes en Mount Temple School en Dublín. En los primeros años del siglo XXI, U2 ha continuado su carrera con un sonido más tradicional mientras mantiene algunas influencias de sus exploraciones musicales anteriores y continúa disfrutando de un gran nivel de éxito comercial, así como de la crítica. En el 2004, la revista Rolling Stone puso a U2 en el lugar 22 de su lista de los "100 artistas más grandes de todos los tiempos". En el 2005, U2 fue incluido en el Salón de la Fama del Rock, el primer año en que podían ser elegidos. La banda es conocida por ser políticamente activa en causas de derechos humanos y justicia social, como Amnistía Internacional, Make Poverty History, the ONE Campaign, Live Aid, Live 8, la campaña de DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade in Africa) y el Music Rising de The Edge.

La música rock o meramente rock
es un género musical contemporáneo encaminado a englobar cada uno de los diversos géneros musicales derivados del rock and roll. Suele interpretarse, entre otros muchos instrumentos que ocasionalmente se adicionan, con guitarra, batería, y bajo. Muchos estilos de música rock también utilizan instrumentos de teclado como el órgano, el piano, o los sintetizadores. La música rock normalmente tiene un fuerte contratiempo, y a menudo se centra en la guitarra, tanto eléctrica como acústica.
El primitivo rock se deriva de una gran cantidad de fuentes, principalmente blues, rythm and blues y country, pero también del gospel, pop tradicional, jazz y folk. Todas estas influencias combinadas en una simple, estructura musical basada en blues «que era rápida, bailable y pegadiza».
Pude haber empezado con muchas otras canciones significativas del rock,pero me parece esta muy buena ,interpretada por Pink Floyd,después hablaremos de ellos.Un adelanto de mi canción favorita.
